I’m Jim Parris — a veteran of the United States Marine Corps (Sergeant) and an IT professional with over 25 years in the field.

After the Corps, I spent my career doing what Marines do best: solving hard problems under pressure, building systems that don’t fail, and teaching others how to do the same. That career has run straight through the heart of Microsoft endpoint management — SCCM, MECM, Intune, Active Directory, PowerShell, SQL, TCP/IP, and everything in between.

ConfigMan-Notes started as exactly what the name says: notes from the field. Real problems I ran into. Real solutions that worked. No fluff, no filler — just the fix.

Over the years it’s grown into a reference site for sysadmins and endpoint engineers who want straight answers. If you’ve ever been three hours into a deployment problem at 11pm and found this site through a search, you know what I mean.

This site covers the Microsoft endpoint management stack from the ground up:

  • MECM / SCCM — the full Configuration Manager stack: OSD, software deployment, patch management, reporting
  • PowerShell — real-world scripts, automation, and functions you can actually use
  • PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit (PSADT) — packaging, silent installs, and deployment logic
  • Infrastructure — Active Directory, SQL, TCP/IP, WSUS, and the plumbing that holds it all together

A Little Background

I served in the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant, where I learned that there’s a right way to do things, a wrong way, and the Marine way — and the Marine way is usually the right way. That mentality stuck.

I’ve been in IT ever since: configuring servers, writing scripts, managing endpoints, and helping organizations get their environments under control. I’ve watched this industry go from on-prem everything to hybrid cloud to full Intune management, and I’ve built and migrated through every phase of it.
